Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams was born in San Francisco in 1902 as an only child. At the age of 4 he survived the aftershock of the great earthquake and fire from 1906. When he was born his parent were pretty old, his mother was nearly forty. His mom got upset at her husband because their family fortune collapsed in 1907 and he couldn't restore it. The mothers' way of handling the family drama left a bad imprint on Ansel's life. His father however, was very encouraging and supported his son in whatever he could. At the age of 12 he got his first camera and got inspired by Yosemite National park. This sparked his career as a photographer even though he started out as a musician. He learned to play the piano and read music all by himself. But ab trip to the national park changed all that 1927 was his most successful year for him. Int his year he capture "monolith" , his first fully visualized photograph. Even though as a recognized artist, he couldn't take care of his finances. Unfortunately he died in 1984 from cardiovascular disease in a hospital in California. Many of his works have been sold after that.

I chose this photographer because I liked how he kept with the concept of capturing nature. My favorite things to make pictures of is flowers, landscapes. Nature views etc. Because of this, I could really relate to this artist. I also liked how he keeps everything in black and white. There were not any colored cameras in that time so he did not really have a choice. But still it gives this unique but still wildly and mysterious twist to the photographs. They are so sharp and so vivid that the moment I took a look at them, I knew I was going to choose this artist.
